"Memories from the past" by Raimondos Papamanolis (Παπαμανώλης Ραϊμόνδος) While in Athens for the sad passing of his brother, Nikos Goudas an unexpected meeting with the past came as a pleasant surprise that somehow contributed into lighting up Mr. Spyros Peter Goudas' heart and bringing old memories back to life. After 50 years of separation from his childhood friends, Mr. Spyros Peter Goudas had the opportunity to meet some of them. One of the friends he greatly enjoyed seeing again was Mr. Raimondos Papamanolis (Παπαμανώλης Ραϊμόνδος), a school-mate and close friend during the young years they both spent in Kalamaki, an area outside Athens. You can see them in the picture smiling joyfully while catching up over dinner. As they both shared their most important life-events and achievements, Raimondos revealed his latest big news: The completion and printing of his book "The Old Kalamaki: Memories from the past", which remembers in detail the old neighbourhood, the people, the houses and streets, and everything that remains as a precious memory in the minds of those who lived there. The value of this book is not only sentimental; it has a historical element which carves the past into words and pictures, and shows how things have changed radically during the past century. We would like to remind the reader that Mr. Spyros Peter Goudas also is from Kalamaki, and he often refers to it as "the most beautiful place in the world". It is evident that this area has captured many hearts and, even though changed today, it remains alive in the minds of those who grew-up there, whose love for it brings a desire to see up-close this source of beautiful memories. Raimondos Papamanolis (Παπαμανώλης Ραϊμόνδος) holds a Bachelor in Journalism, and another in Social Sciences.
He is the editor of the first newspaper of Kalamaki. He worked as a representative at the Ministry of Foreign Letters, and later as a representative of Commercial Affairs in Greece.

Distinguished as a person with many interests and talents, he also utilized his inclination to sports into establishing various athletic organizations, among which the Organization of Athletes of Alimo is even today widely successful and recognized in Greece. Another initiation was that of the Organization of Car Enthusiasts, where he facilitated bike/cart/car races.

The greater area of Kalamaki was named Alimo by his initiation, and the shores of the city where improved as a result of his efforts. One could say that the appearance of Kalamaki today owes a great deal to his contribution.

This booklet of Mr Goudas has been designed to appeal to immigrants .

The story below refers to Mr. Spyros Peter Goudas’ trip to his hometown, Kalamaki, Athens Greece. However, the content can relate to any immigrant’s trip back home, if the name "Kalamaki" is replaced with that of their own hometown. The contents of the article below are dedicated specifically to people who were born and raised in their native land, underwent education and even army training (if their country had one), before their immigration to Canada.

Regardless of what reasons and circumstances were behind the immigration, some of these immigrants were not able to go back home in years.

When they finally do go back home, for one reason or another, like a marriage, baptism, sickness, or the passing of a friend or relative, they realize that what they used to call "home" is now a totally different world.

What these persons remember from their homeland does not change.
Memories remain in our minds, engraved and timeless.

However, the content can relate to any immigrant’s trip back home, if the name "Kalamaki" is replaced with that of their own hometown.Things back home, however, undergo changes every single day; changes we are not aware of, or familiar with.

With a sudden trip back home after many years have gone, these immigrants face a new world, one they do not recognize and one that does not match the memories they have retained.

To some, this could be a pleasant experience, to find out that their country is progressing.
To others, this becomes an unsettling experience due to the disorientation and initial shock they feel. It is almost like all the memories they have had and their whole idea of what "home" looks like, has been erased in a blink of an eye.

Just like the teacher wipes out all the content written on the blackboard, these memories seem to vanish similarly.

This particular story was incorporated in the English version of Mr. Goudas’ Biography titled "The Immigrant".
However, when the book was translated in Greek Ο ΜΕΤΑΝΑΣΤΗΣ, Mr. Goudas incorporated names of his personal friends and neighbours, that he remembered from his childhood.

When the book finally made its round back home, many people found their names in the
book and this created a major excitement.

Everyone wanted to have a copy, and so he sent a book for everyone.
So let’s read this personal story of Spyros Peter Goudas.

It is a bittersweet story filled with emotional moments along with some happy occurrences.

You may find yourself touched while reading, because if something like this ever happened to you,
every sentence of this story will come to life.

You may smile or have tears in your eyes, but nonetheless, you will become part of the story.

His friend Raimondos Papamanolis (Παπαμανώλης Ραϊμόνδος) knows Kalamaki very well and he actually wrote a book about the old Kalamaki and how things used to be.

He gave copy of the book to Spyros Peter Goudas as a present and upon scanning the pages, Spyros was humbled.

He congratulated him for the research and documentation within the pages of his book including old pictues which portray Kalamaki up to three centuries ago.

We have incorporated a link by clicking on the book so you will be able to read the book in Greek.  If not, it is just about time to start.
Afterall, many great philosophers were from Greece.

In addition, Spyros Peter Goudas requested that of names of individuals in the Greek Version be listed in this English Version in this Biography so that people from that part of the world would be able to Google their names.
