Olive Tree, by Bernadette Scott
This is how the booklet, The Olive Tree, came about
By Bernadette Scott.
It is a very powerful book, one of a kind.
It reveals information you have not heard before.
It relates the story of the Olive Tree from its holy beginnings,
The Goddess Athena’s gift to Greece, its cultivation and the process from the beginning to end in the production of Olive Oil and its categories.
It includes how to identify a good Olive Oil and the different varieties of olives.
The featured photo on the cover of the Goudas 2010 Catalogue represents Olive Oil in the true essence of the word.
Rafael Polkowski, the graphic designer for Goudas Foods, took this beautiful photo on the island of Crete.
The trip was complements of Mr. Goudas for the many years of excellent work in creating the finest labels for the Goudas line of products.
Mr. Spyros Peter Goudas has been marketing Olive Oil for many, many years.
However, he realized that regardless of the competition, his oil was always more expensive.
One of the major factors is that Mr. Goudas always goes a step further to ensure that the finished product is exceptional in taste, flavour and aroma.
For some time, he has wanted to develop an article about olives and olive oil.
However, with the daily pressures of the business, he was unable to develop the mindset required to undertake this project.
Suddenly one day, Mr. Goudas received a telephone call from the Olive Oil Association requesting to meet with some of the suppliers.
Since Mr. Goudas is always loyal to his existing suppliers, he was hesitant about this meeting.
The Association then suggested that Mr. Goudas meet with at least one person, the owner of a factory, of many generation of olives and olive oil producer.
This particular individual was insisting upon meeting with Mr. Goudas because he knew that Mr. Goudas marketed one of the best varieties of Olive Oil in the world.
Finally, with the dates and times in place, a meeting was arranged with Mr Renieris from Renieris company (1897), located in Foiniki Village in Lakonia Greece producing and packaging excellent quality olive oil and olives.
Renieris family of Foiniki proudly produces an excellent range of olive oil and olive products, utilizing the crops of the whole area at its state of the art olive oil press and bottling facilities
For five hours the conversation was one-sided only.
Mr. Goudas listened carefully to every word Mr. Takis Renieris was said. At the end of this session, Mr. Goudas asked his secretary to set up a dinner appointment, which was to include Mr. Renieris wife who also comes from a family of three generations of olive oil producers.
The dinner appointment continued well into the wee hours of the morning.
At 1:00 a.m. when the restaurant finally closed, Mr. Goudas was still listening.
This time there were two people talking because the wife was also an expert on the topic. Now the time had come for questions, and time was running out.
The couple had to catch a return flight home in the morning.
Mr. Goudas suggested that they continue at another outside restaurant ( Avli ) on Danforth Ave, in Toronto Canada.

BOUGATSA & BAKLAVA BOOK
"What is bougasta?
What makes it different from other pastries? Before I provide you with the recipe, first you must read this story.
When he was a kid he always had the desire and the appetite to go to these peddlers in downtown Athens to purchase one of these pastries.
It was Mr. Goudas' intention to sit there on the patio for as long as necessary for his questions to be answered.
The experts in the Olive Oil business answered all of Mr. Goudas questions.
It was a fascinating experience for Mr. Goudas because he was able to obtain a wealth of information including all the basic, background, crop and production information necessary to begin writing The Olive Tree booklet.
The question and answer period ended when the cock started to crow.
After all, the couple had a flight to board.
All this information was stored in Mr. Goudas' mind since he never carries a pen and paper.
(I believe he has a computer in his head.)
Arriving back at the office early in the morning, he told his early morning secretary that he had a tremendous amount of information in his head and that he has to write a book right away.
For quite some time after that, he always mentioned that he needed to write the book, but he could not quite make up his mind on how to start or how to finish it.
In the mean time, he obtained much more infomation by speaking to Olive Oil producers around the world.
Then, one Saturday, a few months later, he said to the skeleton staff to take their chairs and position themselves in such a way that they could listen to the progress of the book.
He suggested that coffee be prepared and washroom breaks taken because there would be no interruptions permitted.
He then started talking.
The dictation had begun, and I started typing.
All the while, sentence after sentence, he paced forward and backward using his cane because of his back injury.
MIRACLES STILL DO HAPPEN BOOK
"Initially, I intended to call this booklet Floaters but I changed it to the title above and as you go through the story, you will understand why..."
This moving true story reminds us that what goes around comes around in that good things will happen to good people.
Miracles Still Do Happen is an inspiring tale that will leave its readers with a positive and hopeful message that is definitely worth passing on to others.
Finally, after what seemed like an eternity (five hours), he said that this was to be the final period (full stop).
And this is how the booklet, The Olive Tree, came about.
I stayed behind to make the necessary grammatical changes.
A reminder, he is not an English major but an immigrant who spent his lifetime producing the best products the world has ever known.
You will notice that this booklet traces the origins of the olive from its beginnings with the dove returning with the olive branch in its mouth to Noah after the great flood, it mentions the goddess Athena and the original Olympic olive wreath.
In many of his writings, Mr. Goudas frequently shows his belief in a superior being, the Creator, God.
You may not see him often in a Church.
However, his philanthropy extends to many churches, church associations and organizations regardless of their religious affiliations, senior citizens community housing sites (for various ethnic nationalities), charitable organizations, cultural organizations, individuals in need, etc., etc..
You may read the extensive list of his philanthropy in the Letters of Appreciation Section of this website.
Mr. Willie Williams has also talked about Mr. Goudas' community support.
