Entrepreneur's award for Peter Spyros Goudas INDO CARIBBEAN WORLD 1993

Peter Spyros Goudas, founder and president of Goudas Food Products co ltd , was last week selected as the recipient of this year’s New Canadian Entrepreneur of the Year Awards.

The tribute was presented by the National Council of Ethnic Canadian Business & Professional Associations (Toronto Chapter) and the federal Business Development Bank.

The awards ceremony is a celebration to Canada by ethnocultural businesses, and was held at the Westin Harbour Castle Hotel.

Peter Spyros Goudas got the nod through its business achievement, leadership, and community involvement.

The company’s success today is due mainly to the determination and grit of Peter Goudas.

Peter arrived in Canada in 1967, without a penny and unable to speak English. Nathan Phillips Square serve served as a bed until he found his first job.

Several years later he purchased a small package plant, and from this point started on that journey which would see him climbing to the top. The Concord company today continues to produce food items for the constantly growing ethnic market.

However there was one setback when a serious accident almost put Goudas out of business in 1979. But he has since rebuilt through hard work: and with lots of that characteristic determination which has now put him securely out in front.

Today, Peter Spyros Goudas produces and distributes 350 products, imported from 120 nations around the world. The company employs more then 100 personnel. There are three plants in Toronto; and one each in the Dominican Republic, Trinidad, Sri Lanka, and Greece.

The products from Peter Spyros Goudas are easily recognizable in Caribbean stores, in chain stores across Canada and in other ethnic businesses.

Peter, who comes from Greece, is an active member of the ethno cultural community, and has sponsored various radio programs and festivals.

The October 26 awards ceremony some more than 200 persons in attendance. Among the speakers were Sonja Bata, director of Bata Corporation; Xiaomin Meng, Trade Councilor of the Peoples’ Republic of China; Bishal Mani, Consul of India; Gerril Kulsdom, Consul of The Netherlands; and Sergio Aguillera, Consul General of Mexico.
