Let us stop for a moment and spend a little time to really understand the words and the meaning of a melody that we often listen to either at Church or in the movies.

Rev. Augustus M. Toplady,the author of the hymn Rock of Ages
Since we are living in a multicultural society with all races, cultures and religions and with troubles around the world, in this region called Canada, we are all living in harmony – and this may be, the BIGGEST PRIVILEGE OF ALL TIMES.
We often hear this melody and never paid attention since, to many people, it is just another English song.
'Rock of Ages' from the film "Abandon Ship" (also known as "Seven Waves Away"), starring Tyrone Power and Mai Zetterling . (Filmed in 1956 and released in 1957).
The singer is Orlando Martins (born in Nigeria in 1899).

The photo below has no relation to the song Rock of Ages, it has been inserted to identify Orlando Martins who acted in many films, in this particular one, he stars along with Ronald Reagan, who went on to become President of the United States.
In reality, of course it is an English Song, by the author of the hymn, Rev. Augustus M. Toplady, who was sheltered in a gap of a hillside during a storm in 1763 in England and was struck by the title, Rock of Ages.
It was published in 1775.
Apparently, the words of the song were part of an inspiration from heaven.
When he wrote this song, he did not have a music composer to put it together and some time in later years, the words were formed into a melody.
It took some time, work and effort to put together.
Therefore, I want you to receive this click as a gift from both the writer and composer and try to understand the words, which have a very deep meaning.
I would like you to put aside Buddha, Mohammed, Christ or Moses.
Think for a moment about talking to GOD.
Rock of Ages, cleft for me,
Let me hide myself in Thee;
Let the water and the blood,
From Thy wounded side which flowed,
Be of sin the double cure,
Save from wrath and make me pure.
Not the labor of my hands
Can fulfill Thy law’s demands;
Could my zeal no respite know,
Could my tears forever flow,
All for sin could not atone;
Thou must save, and Thou alone.
Nothing in my hand I bring,
Simply to Thy cross I cling;
Naked, come to Thee for dress;
Helpless, look to Thee for grace;
Foul, I to the fountain fly;
Wash me, Savior, or I die.
While I draw this fleeting breath,
When my eyes shall close in death,
When I rise to worlds unknown,
And behold Thee on Thy throne,
Rock of Ages, cleft for me,
Let me hide myself in Thee.
